Art historian and specialist in Kazakh visual culture.
Sanzhar Syrgabayev
He holds an MA in Art History from the Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts and is currently pursuing a PhD in the philosophy of art. He is a research fellow at the Kasteev State Museum of Arts. He is the author of scholarly and critical texts addressing the history and contemporary developments of Kazakh art, as well as theoretical questions in visual culture and artistic ontology.
His research is devoted to issues of national artistic identity, the mythopoetics of visual imagery, visual memory, and the philosophical foundations of Kazakh painting and graphic art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. He publishes in peer-reviewed academic and leading cultural journals, participates in museum-based and academic research projects, and is actively engaged in curatorial and scholarly practice. He is the author of numerous monographs, books, and exhibition catalogues. His work is positioned at the intersection of art history, philosophy, and visual anthropology.
