Alfred Eisfeld

Alfred Eisfeld is a German historian specializing in the history of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, Soviet nationality policy, and the history and culture of the Russian Germans. He holds a PhD from the University of Munich and has been a researcher at the Göttinger Arbeitskreis since 1987. From 1995 to 2022, he chaired the Academic Commission for the Study of Germans in Russia and the CIS, now known as the Academic Commission for the Study of Germans in Eastern Europe, Siberia, Central Asia and the Caucasus. He is the author and editor of numerous studies and collections of documents on the history of Germans in the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the post-Soviet states.
