Czesław Miłosz / Qalam

Due to its educational aspirations, Qalam strives to explain the world - hence, every historical or cultural phenomenon considered here is accompanied by a wealth of additional information. However, in this section, we have decided to do without unnecessary words and familiar comments. Before you are fragments of verses collected from different eras and parts of the world, which seem to speak for themselves and are notably beautiful to us. As one modern lyricist expressed on a similar occasion, if it's without explanations; it's probably to do with something in one's blood.

I thought it was all preparation,

To finally learn how to die.

Sunrises, twilight, under the maple tree,

Laura without panties, asleep with raspberries on the pillow,

While Philemon, happy, bathes in the stream,

Sunrises and years. Any glass of wine,

Laura, sea, land, and archipelago,

I believed, bring us closer to one goal only,

They must all serve only that goal.

But the paralytic from my street,

Whom they move along with his chair

From shadow to sun and from sun to shadow,

Looks at the cat, the leaves, and the shiny cars,

Muttering the same thing: "Beau temps, beau temps."

And, undoubtedly, our time is beautiful,

As appropriate as the word "time" can be here.

Czesław Miłosz (1911 – 2004) - Polish poet and laureate of the Nobel Prize.
