Ötüken

The Legendary Ancient Sacred Capital of the Turkic People

Ötüken is considered the birthplace of the Turkic people, marking the beginning of their existence and settlement in the world. The city was located near a mountain and surrounded by a dense sacred forest. While information about it is preserved mainly in Chinese written sources, the general history and fate of Ötüken remains somewhat obscure. It is believed that the capital of the Uyghur Khaganate, Har Balgas, or Ordu-Baliq, or Karabalghasun, the Black City, was later built on the same site.
