al-Farabi
The Famous Scholar and Philosopher of the Ninth and Tenth Centuries
Although we can’t be certain if Abū Naṣr Muḥammad al-Fārābī was actually born in Otrar, most researchers consider this the most likely place of his birth. Al-Farabi was a true Renaissance man, embodying the concept centuries before the Renaissance ever existed. He was a linguist, philosopher, musician, biologist, psychologist, and sociologist. His work bridged Eastern and ancient Western thought, creating new schools, meanings, and methods of knowledge.
