Gandhari

Indian Princess, Mother of a Hundred Heroes, Heroine of the Epic Mahabharata

To support the blind king she was married to, Gandhari put a blindfold over her own eyes, vowing never to remove it. The king, however, was saddened by her vow: he had wanted a wife who could be his eyes. Gandhari was amongst the most desirable brides in ancient India, and she was granted a boon to have 100 sons by Lord Shiva. A renowned sage also granted her this boon, and she soon became mother to 100 boys and one girl.
