Aminat Chokobaeva

Aminat Chokobaeva is an assistant professor of history at Nazarbayev University. Before coming to Nazarbayev University, Aminat taught at the University of Sydney and the Australian National University, where she completed her PhD in 2017. Her interests include the uprising of 1916 as well as the broader issues of state-building and governance in Central Asia. She is a co-editor of the volume on the Central Asian uprising of 1916 published with the Manchester University Press. She is currently working on a manuscript, where she examines the dramatic reconfiguration of Semirech’e, a majority nomadic Central Asian frontier region with considerable Slavic settler population, in the social and economic upheaval of the early twentieth century.
