A Memory of a Special Moment in Urumqi

Umtyl Zarykkan/Qalam

I remember, about ten years ago,

On one of Urumqi’s old streets,

I found a fragment of a worn-out horseshoe.

I held it tight and examined it with care,

And thought of the horse that once lost it somehow.

Who was that blacksmith who had forged it?

Though no shivers ran through my hands,

And there were no burning tears on my eyes,

Revenge like a kitten's claw tore my chest,

And strangely, that feeling gave me a crest.

With force, I flung that horseshoe afar,

Toward a graveyard, the roadside near.

And soon,

In my palm, I could see just pulsating Red Moon.
