Loneliness? What does it mean? Years go by,
You walk in solitude, not knowing why or where.
The moon races across the forest leaves, in the sky,
The night's heart sliced by the lightning's blade,
I hear: Varuna splashes, her stream rushes into the night.
My soul tells me: the impossible is not unbeatable.
Lost in thought, I wander aimlessly somewhere.
On my path, I see a house. I see the windows lit.
I hear the sounds of a sitar, the melody of a simple song,
This is my song, nourished by warm tears,
This is my glory, this is the sadness that has departed.

Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) was Indian writer, poet, composer, and the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
