To forgive and forget means to throw away precious experiences. A person can forget everything, everything-except oneself, one's essence, since one's character is incorrigible.

Arthur Schopenhauer (1788–1860) – the greatest German pessimist philosopher, author of 'The World as Will and Representation', the father of all modern hostility, and a connoisseur and propagator of Indian thought.
